In 1983 when Boy Scouts of America Troop 647 was organized in the South Central Los Angeles area, Orlando Epting became their first Scoutmaster. Over the 17 years of its history, Orlando held many leadership positions in the Troop and Pack. Jean Dawson Jean Dawson

In the late 80's, Jean Dawson joined her son to Boy Scouts of America Pack 647. Jean's support of the Pack was exceptional. That support continued when her son graduated to Troop 647. She now assists in mentoring scouting units within our South Central community with that same exceptional commitment.

In the late 80's Charles Moore joined his three sons with Boy Scouts of America Troop and Pack 647. Charles held the position of Assistant Scoutmaster and then became the Scoutmaster. In 1992, Charles was awarded the Silver Beaver award by the Los Angeles Area Boy Scout Council. Under Charles leadership, Troop 647 saw its first and second Eagle Scout. The highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve.

In 1993, Helen Harris became an Assistant Girl Scout Leader to her daughter's Girl Scout Troop 1432. Helen continued to support the Troop after her daughter started college. Helen is in charge of keeping the financial accounting records for 50th Street Youth Program. Helen ensures accurate financial records in support of scouting within our South Central community program.

In 1988 when Girl Scouts of the USA Troop 1432 was organized in the South Central Los Angeles area, Crystal Jones became their first Primary Girl Scout Leader. Crystal also assumed Primary Leadership for Troops 280, 321 and 305. Crystal is the primary Girl Scout Troop coordinator for 50th Street Youth Program ensuring mentorship and support for Girl Scout Troops within our community.

In the late 80's Joyce Gibbs joined her son with Boy Scouts of America Pack 647. Joyce was a very supportive parent to the Pack. As her son graduated into the Troop, Joyce's support became invaluable, she became our Historian, photographically chronicling our many activities. Because of Joyce, we are able to share some of our history with you through the photo gallery of this website.

Tamryn is currently a general education teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) where she has been employed for 19 years. She has taught kindergarten through 5th grade and has served as grade level chair. Before working for LAUSD, Tamryn was employed in the DeKalb County school system in Georgia for six years. She earned her teaching credential and Master's degree in early childhood ...
